Glass Pipework Upgrade
Client: GlaxonSmithKline
Location: Stevenage, UK
This project, at GlaxoSmithKline’s R&D facility in Stevenage, involved the production of a 3D as-built CAD model of a highly complex and congested area that included a large amount of glass pipework. Engineering contractor Projen were contracted to replace the glass sections with a stronger and safer version made from stainless steel.
Several modules were surveyed using photogrammetry, and the data from these surveys was used to create 3D models. These models were used by Projen to determine the demolition and new build using sequential 3D rendered images. The project was an acknowledged success for Projen, who won the Bentley New Technology Adoption Award for their execution of the work.
