Point Cloud Deliverables
Introduction

Every project has different requirements. Some clients simply require a registered point cloud for visualisation or measurement, while others need data prepared for CAD modelling, clash detection or integration with existing engineering workflows.
Offset Services supplies point cloud deliverables in a wide range of industry-standard formats, tailored to your software, project requirements and preferred workflow.
Deliverables Tailored to Your Workflow
We work with a wide range of engineering, design and visualisation software and can provide point cloud data in the format most appropriate for your project.
E57
The industry-standard exchange format compatible with most CAD, BIM and point cloud software.
Autodesk ReCap (RCP/RCS)
Optimised for Autodesk workflows including Revit, Navisworks and AutoCAD.
Leica LGS/LGSX
Optimised for Leica TruView Enterprise and Leica software, providing efficient viewing and collaboration.
LAS / LAZ
Widely recognised point cloud formats suitable for GIS, mapping and specialist processing applications.
Tailored Point Cloud Preparation
Cropped Project Areas
Not every project requires an entire facility.
We can supply point clouds cropped to specific buildings, production lines, plant areas or work packages, reducing file sizes and making the data easier to manage.
Unified Point Clouds
Where appropriate, multiple scan positions can be unified into a single point cloud, simplifying downstream workflows and improving performance in many CAD and visualisation applications.
The appropriate level of unification depends on the intended application. Highly unified datasets can simplify viewing and improve compatibility with some software, whilst preserving scan structure may benefit other engineering workflows. We prepare the point cloud to suit the way you intend to use it.
Colour or Intensity
Depending on project requirements, deliverables can include:
- True colour imagery
- Intensity datasets
- Optimised datasets for performance
Coordinate Systems
Where projects require it, point clouds can be aligned to an established site or project coordinate system. This ensures new survey data integrates seamlessly with existing engineering information, allowing designers, contractors and project teams to work from a consistent spatial reference throughout the project lifecycle.
Optimised for Performance
Modern laser scanners capture an enormous amount of information, providing an accurate and detailed representation of your facility. Whilst this level of detail is invaluable, the resulting datasets can be challenging to work with on standard engineering workstations if they are not prepared appropriately.
At Offset Services, we don’t simply export the data—we optimise it for the way your team intends to use it. Drawing on our extensive experience working with large point cloud datasets, we can advise on the most appropriate level of optimisation, ensuring the data remains accurate, complete and fit for purpose.
Techniques such as cropping, unifying, segmentation and point cloud optimisation allow us to deliver datasets that balance performance, usability and fidelity, making them easier to navigate and integrate into your existing engineering workflows.
Supporting Your Software
Our deliverables are prepared to integrate with the software already used by your engineering team, whether for design, coordination, visualisation or asset management.
Not every project requires specialist point cloud software. Where appropriate, we can also deliver survey data through our own SmartPanoramics® platform, providing browser-based access to panoramic imagery, point cloud information and project documentation. This allows wider project teams to explore the captured environment without requiring dedicated point cloud software.
More Than Point Cloud Files
Whilst many projects require registered point cloud data for CAD modelling or engineering design, point clouds can also be used directly for a range of specialist analysis tasks. Depending on your project requirements, Offset Services can support activities such as deviation analysis, dimensional verification, clearance assessments and other geometry-based engineering studies.
