Customer looking for efficiency improvements with no dimensional detail for the area of interest. OSL provided accurate as-built detail for the designers to use to develop a new design delivering reduced time/costs etc.

Techniques employed –

• Laser scanning site capture.
• Registration and QA checking of captured data.
• Less than 1 day on site.
• Area of interest 30m x 28m x 13m.

Deliverables –

• Accurate point cloud to allow new design of equipment to be developed.
• Offset’s own Smartpanoramic solution to allow specified users easy secure access to hosted point cloud images.
• Autodesk Recap format point cloud to support the designers using Autodesk Inventor.

Challenges –

• Preparation of applicable RAMS.
• Working on a production site with appropriate PPE and safety considerations.
• Working with mechanical designers who are redesigning the a handling process to reduce time and therefore increase throughput at the facility.
• The area was quickly captured during a scheduled plant shutdown, eliminating any unplanned production down time whilst ensuring complete coverage of all areas of interest to allow the design work to progress.
