Still Shape Analysis, Guinness UDV
The exact shape of this still needed to be recreated during replacement to maintain the distinct flavour of the whiskey!
To reverse engineer the still, a combined laser scanning and photogrammetry approach was employed. The laser scanning captured the complex geometry of the still surface and photogrammetry captured the supporting steelwork and connecting pipework.
Special targets were developed so that both sytems could be combined in the same 3D coordinate system, enabling both outputs to be seamlessly integrated into 1 homogenous 3D model. This combined model can be seen overlaid on the photographs above using MAGAN.
The complete data capture took 1/2 day and analysis a further 3 days.
