To reverse engineer the still, a combined laser scanning and photogrammetry approach was employed. The laser scanning captured the complex geometry of the still surface and photogrammetry captured the supporting steelwork and connecting pipework.
Special targets were developed so that both sytems could be combined in the same 3D coordinate system, enabling both outputs to be seamlessly integrated into 1 homogenous 3D model. This combined model can be seen overlaid - using
MAGAN - on these photographs (click to see each image in more detail).
The complete data capture took half a day and analysis a further three days.
